Say Goodbye to New Year’s Resolutions

Here it is again, the time of year to start setting your goals for the New Year. This year you will do this and do that. Yadda, yadda, yadda. I noticed that with coming of the New Year majority of people focus on what they didn’t accomplish in the previous year and have hopes of making the new year better. Nothing wrong with setting goals in hope to achieve them but I think the New Year’s Resolution is gone about the wrong way. I say lets change our mindset of “NEW YEAR RESOLUTION”! I have a couple ideas of something better.

Hear Me out

Instead of waiting for the “New Year” to come to set your goal, why not set them for today, tomorrow, or right now?  For an example, loosing weight is one of the top goals people choose for their New Years Resolution if not the top resolution. I know being healthier is mine. So, why wait to start loosing weight until January 1st? Why not say, “Self, I starting right now to choose to make better health decisions.” There is no need to wait!  As the saying goes, if you fall off the horse just get back up again. If you eat unhealthy one meal, don’t beat yourself up. Change your mindset and tell yourself at the next meal I will make better choices.

I noticed people, myself included, will say, “Well I will start tomorrow or on Monday.” That doesn’t help them or me.

Looking back

On the subject of people feeling their year wasn’t productive or even accomplishing much. I say take a real good look at the year. Maybe your year was a year of healing. Maybe your year was of being still and waiting. Maybe your year was a year of personal growth and learning. Maybe your year was a year of surviving. There are many other ways to see what your year was and you know what as the bible says, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, ” plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”  God has you where he needs you. Your year lead you where you need to be. You accomplished something whether big or small, YOU ACCOMPLISHED IT! GO YOU!

Looking forward

Make realistic goals for the year, for the month, for the week, or even the day. However you want to make them just make them achievable. When you reach a goal, even a small one, it helps you stay motivated to keep going. If you goal changes that’s fine too, life happens. What I DON’T want you do to is to give up, lose focus, and even worse lose hope. Forget the, there is always next year mentality.

“Delight yourself in the Lord; and he shall give you the desires of your heart.”‘-Psalms 37:4
